报告摘要:
The primary objectives of Australasian railways are to cater to the demands of the supply chain in the mining and agriculture industries, as well as to offer commuters with faster and more cost-effective transportation. Due to a rise in axle load and traffic volume, the frequency of maintenance operations has grown significantly. Multiple geotechnical concerns in the densely populated coastal regions cause substantial problems. The construction of a railway embankment on soft soil presents practitioners with a formidable challenge. Significant deformations of ballasted tracks may result in a loss of track geometry, which could be detrimental to track stability. The poor performance of critical zones along a railway line exacerbates the track geometry degradation. Appropriate approaches for track stabilisation are required to address these concerns. The use of a piled embankment is regarded as one of the most reliable solutions for soft soil. In a railway embankment supported by piles, soil arching is crucial for the efficient transfer of loads to the piles. This presentation will focus on transport challenges and contemporary design aspects for Australian railways. Advanced computational and experimental research contributions by UTS researchers will be presented in the areas of soil arching in transportation embankment, moving loads, track critical zones (e.g., open track-bridge transition zone), and the utilization of blended recycled waste. Novel and practically significant findings from a recently concluded project sponsored by the Australia-India Council shall also be presented.
